Outdoor Learning
Outdoor Learning
All children at Colehill First School can access our outdoor area on a daily basis, through our planned and monitored OPAL environment. They also access targeted time as a class through Enrichment afternoons.
We know and appreciate the social, emotional and health value of being outdoors and spending time in nature. We actively encourage pupils to re-engage with nature and the outdoors, allowing the children to learn new skills and have fun, gain confidence in themselves and learn about the beauty of nature and all its resources. The skills they learn assist in the development of their social and emotional intelligence and practical skills through play, exploration and supported risk taking.
We want them to be risk-aware and not risk-averse and this approach to risk means that learners constantly expand on their abilities by solving real-world issues, building self-belief and resilience. Children are encouraged to embrace the natural environment they are surrounded by in school, their communities and the big wide world.
